Digital surveillance to detect and stop suspicious drug orders

OrderInsite’s Guardian solution is designed to proactively detect and stop suspicious items within prescription drug orders by evaluating these items against both static and dynamic thresholds to identify anomalies in order size, frequency or pattern before the order is submitted to the supplier. It can evaluate all orders across all suppliers. The solution leverages a full suite of inventory management and intelligent purchasing capabilities to provide workflow tools and efficient access to relevant data. The solution captures any action taken by users for audit or review and is integrated with a robust case management tool.

Static and Dynamic thresholds are calculated daily by our application and compared to the existing thresholds in the system. When the variance between the newly calculated threshold and the existing threshold exceeds a pre-defined margin, a task is created for the compliance team to review the new threshold.

Each item within an order is evaluated against both static and dynamic thresholds. If an item within the order violates a threshold, that item is deemed suspicious and is removed from the order for review. The remaining items in the order are forwarded on to the appropriate supplier.

Retrospective Analytics represent a compilation of pre-defined analytics that were developed in concert with DEA experts to evaluate store-, prescriber- and patient-level activity. These pre-defined analytics are designed to help in identifying potential areas of concern that may be leading indicators for suspicious behavior.
